News: Just keeping you up on the world of toys
In case you guys haven’t heard, Yamato’s new 1/60 Version 2.0 are amongst the hottest toys of 2008 and they’ve only gotten better in 2009. Okay, the first release of Focker had some questionable shoulders but since then it’s been 99% rave reviews. Now, you would probably think Yamato would play this safe and stick with the most major paint schemes first but apparently that won’t be the case.
That’s right, the Max TV 1A and DYRL VF-1S are coming out! Those toys still have yet to be released in 1/48 scale so this is definitely news. This ought to also add more to the excitement of Yamato’s recently reissued Q-Rau toys. Less news worthy, but still exciting for 1/60 2.0 fans is that the DYRL VF-1A Max is also scheduled to be released. The smart guess seems to be that the Max TV VF-1J can’t be far behind.
What about the destroids? Well there’s obviously a review coming up on this website for the Yamato Defender. If you haven’t seen it yet, the Olive Drab Tomahawk didn’t make an appearance on this website but it is quite attractive. Have a friend in Japan? Yamato just recently announced an Weather Edition Olive Drab Tomahawk as well (and the Weathering is beige… the production sample is downright sexy).
Are you more of a Macross Plus guy? Have you seen the pictures of Yamato’s upcoming VF-11B? It’s available for preorder also. This is Yamato’s last upgrade of the Macross Plus line but they’ll probably start pumping out repaints soon.
In other news, I should have a review of the new Beagle Rider Armor toy next week! My order has already shipped from Overdrive so you should be reading a review by next Friday. Future posts (or updates to existing posts) include the CMs Shinobu, CMs Dark VR-21 & 31, Mega House’s Dark VR-21, CMs John Wolff figure, Yamato’s 1/48 Max TV 1A, Bandai’s 1/100 VF-25 series, and many more! Don’t worry, I know I have some terribly old reviews that need updating and I’ll be getting to those as I can also. If the new releases slow down to the point where I can get caught up then you can expect to see more vintage items popping up again also.
You want rumors? It sounds like a sure bet that the Beagle release order will be Stig, Ray, Houquet, and then Yellow. Ray has already been making the circuits in prototype form but the expectation in the toy industry is to see some progression on Houquet in the next round of toy shows. My keen eye noticed a prototype being sold recently on eBay of what appeared to be the next Mega House event exclusive. It’s another black and gold effort like their previous Wonderfest exclusive (which was a very hot seller). Word on the street is that we should also expect to see lots of future Yamato Weathering Edition specials so if you’re the kind of Macross collector that loves grabbing all the special items you’re going to be heading straight into a year that might bankrupt you.
Do you think they will be coming out Weathering Edition Specials for each or most of the Yamato 1/60 VFs?
I started my 1/60th collection with the weathered Tomahawk and I’m about to order the weathered Defender. Would love to wait and get only weathered versions of the rest of the 1/60 line but not sure that would be financially possible!
So far there has only been 1 pic seen of a weather version v.2 1/60 VF-1. To be exact it was a VF-1S Roy type. It looked good from what I could see. But I’m personally not into the weathered look. Great grab on the Tomahawk…I will be getting the Olive Drab version of that myself and then the classic defender. SOON SOON THEY WILL BE MINE!!!!!!
