Observations & Critique: The Yamato website exclusive dress up clothes for your Valkyrie

These web exclusive parts cost a pretty penny so I was rather surprised when my box of toys from Japan arrived and I looked inside to discover what looked like a baggy full of doll clothes.\u00a0 Then again, I’ve always rallied for more efficient packaging and this is about as efficient as it gets.\u00a0 Everything comes in a resealable plastic bag (with more resealable bags for each piece within the main bag). Standing 1\/60 pilot figures to go in the pocket would have been a glorious addition… but I don’t think the pocket is big enough for that.<\/p>\n

These clothes were originally a Yamato web-shop exclusive retailing for 8,295\u00a5 released in December 2010. When I first wrote this review I asked, “The real question here is, are people really going to go for a uniform that was featured in one episode and worn by a valk that generally isn’t considered very popular?\u00a0 Are people really going to pay the full MSRP of a valk to own these doll clothes?\u00a0 Time will tell.” More than seven years later we can see that the Yamato V2 and all of its accessories have done a remarkable job holding their value and even appreciating. Items like the Yamato V2 VF-1A Max TV custom now routinely sell for twice their original MSRP and this particular accessory can demand 3x MSRP if not more.<\/p>\n

It’s a decent attempt at getting the uniform down.\u00a0 Pockets are present (though it’s missing the one behind the Zentran insignia on the left breast), the hat, the insignia, the stripes.\u00a0 Overall, you can color me pretty impressed.\u00a0 Go ahead to Youtube and watch Robotech’s “The Big Escape” and compare to my pics here.\u00a0 I have two nitpicks:\u00a0 1) the over-sized zipper (but things might have been frustrating with a smaller one), 2) the right breast pocket is too small for a 1\/60 scale pilot.<\/p>\n

From a durability standpoint, the Zentran insignia on the hat and on the left-side of the chest are both glued on and after nearly 8 years this glue is failing. It’s a pretty simple matter to simply glue the insignia back into place. You will find the clothes pretty restricting on your toy but that’s to be expected.\u00a0 I could get some poses, and I could apply the uniform in either GERWALK or Battroid modes which is all I really asked for.
