Review: So much articulation it will blow your artificial intelligence

Packaging & Extras: (4.5/5)
Two things keep this toy from getting a perfect score, 1) a second gun, 2) a collector’s grade box.  Other than that you have a display stand, gun, a bonus Pin Point Barrier Punch piece, and super parts.  For the price the job done here is top notch.

Charm & Collectability: (2.5/5)
Non-transformable toys made of lower quality plastics of a valkyrie that isn’t the biggest fan favorite probably aren’t going to generate a whole lot of long-term collectability.  This toy’s charm comes in the fact it’s both fun and cheap so don’t buy it as an investment, take it out and do some exciting poses with it.  The small size guarantees there will be plenty of room on your shelf for other similar products.

Sculpt, Detail, and Paint: (7/10)
Considering the size and Kaiyodo’s joint system this is actually a really decent representation of the valk even if it is stylized.  The toy looks aggressive and menacing which is exactly the spirit the YF-21 should exude.  There’s a smattering of detail work, and the necessary trim is present, but don’t expect to be bowled over by attention to detail.

Design: (8/10)
The only thing Kaiyodo really could do with a toy of this minute size was to put all the joints necessary in all the right spots and they largely accomplished that.  The Revoltech joints work well making this one lithe toy.

Durability & Build: (7/10)
It’s an average score for an average toy.  The plastic feels rubbery but I haven’t had a problem with it breaking even when I’ve attempted some rather unnatural poses.  Little issues like imperfect paint should be expected. This is going to be a toy that seems cheap, and is cheap, but you should be able enjoy it comfortably without fearing of having it fall apart on you.

Articulation: (9/10)
You will have fun posing this toy.  If you own the YF-19 expect to have some epic shelf battles.  If you’re ever having a hard time getting your 21 into that perfect pose just disassemble it a bit, take the Revoltech joint out, rotate it as needed, then put things back together again.  If you get creative with repositioning these joints the sky’s the limit.

Total Score: (38/50)
I’m still having fun posing my Mac Plus Revoltechs against each other and at the price you really can’t go wrong.  If you’re looking for a cheap gift for the Macross fan in your life, and they don’t have any of these Revoltechs, then this would be a good idea.
